A place for everyone
You don't need to be a major in the School of Music, Dance and Theatre to pursue your interests at ASU. Whether you are a journalism student interested in acting or an engineering student wanting to continue playing your instrument, there is a place for everyone in the School of Music, Dance and Theatre. Audition for productions, take our courses, earn a minor or certificate, attend our events and participate in our broad range of programs. We value the creativity, personal experience and voice of every student.
Courses Overrides
A course override is permission to add a course that you otherwise could not add for one of the following reasons:
- The course requires instructor permission
- You have a time conflict with another class but you are able to work out a schedule accommodation to attend both classes.
- You have not met a prerequisite to add the class.
- The course is at capacity.
Steps to Request a Course Override
Step 1: Contact the instructor of the course to request a course override. You should provide a strong justification for the request. The instructor may or may not give their permission.
Step 2: If given permission to add the course, submit the corresponding Course Override Form:
Include the following information in the form:
- Your Name
- ASU ID
- Course Prefix + Number (ex. MUP 494)
- Course Line # (5-digit code)
- Reason that the override is needed
Step 3: You will receive an email confirmation when the course override is complete. You are NOT AUTOMATICALLY ENROLLED in the requested course. You must add the course to your schedule in your My ASU.
